Let’s Brainstorm

All you have to do, to be part of this brainstorming process, is to think about the question below and then leave a comment with your ideas.  Now, believe it or not, there are some ‘rules’ for effective brainstorming.  I found these in an article on Lynda.com that I want us all following to maximize the chance of great results.

  1. Defer judgment
  2. Focus on quantity, not quality
  3. Welcome far-fetched ideas

Defer:  Don’t criticize ideas, your own or someone else’s.  This isn’t the time for judging the thoughts flowing and, in fact, being negative, about your own idea or someone else’s, can shut off the spigot of proposals.  And don’t praise suggestions either.

Focus: It’s not about coming up with the perfect solution; it’s about coming up with a long list.  Believe it or not, “It’s much easier to pick out the good ideas from a large list, than to pick out the good ideas from a small one.”

What can I do to get more people interested in dad’s writing?

Final Note: Your comment won’t show up immediately after submission. Because of the way this blog is set up and to minimize criticisms of people’s idea, each comment will be reviewed by me before it will be visible. I will not modify of change anything, though I may decline to post something that doesn’t follow one of the three ‘rules’ on brainstorming mentioned above.
